Whole Mentality, PLLC currently has a waitlist. New Provider availability late May/June 2024. Contact us today.

 Your first session: INTAKE

Regardless of choosing traditional therapy, walk and talk therapy, or EMDR Therapy Intensives —
everyone will have an intake for their initial session.

Your first session, referred to as an intake, is a time of history collecting. As we are strangers, this is a chance for you to let your provider know what brings you in at this moment in your life. With your consent, your provider may also ask clarifying questions and request other information about your life experience(s). An important point to make is that therapy is extremely relational which is why we will first have a free 15-30 minute consult. If after meeting with your potential provider, should you or your provider think you aren’t a good fit for each other, please let them know. We will gladly refer you to someone else who may be a better fit. If you don’t like your therapist, it will be a barrier to you making the progress you seek. You always have the right to request a different therapist. However, relating well to your therapist does not meant therapy will not have challenges. It’s important to take a moment to assess the difference between a therapist not being a good fit, and the natural and often necessary discomfort that can come from therapy work. Being challenged is a healthy, expected part of the therapeutic process.

However, it’s been deemed “non-structural” meaning that there is nothing structurally wrong with your body. Perhaps there once was, but as it stands currently - your brain has learned pain and is continuing to send pain signals to your body. Pain reprocessing therapy is a therapy to treat this non-structural pain.

The overall goal of DBT is to support clients in learning healthy ways of managing distressing/painful emotions and learn to handle and decrease relational conflict. DBT is used to treat emotion dysregulation, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and more.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidenced based form of therapy that utilizes a hands on approach to solve problems. CBT is goal oriented, and works to alter someone’s unhealthy patterns of thought and/or behavior which ultimately leads to changing how someone feels. When we understand how we think, we can make more informed choices on a day to day basis. CBT is used to treat a wide variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, and more.

Trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidenced based form of therapy that incorporates CBT to process through trauma. Using a trauma narrative, and teaching psychoeducation on trauma in conjunction with CBT skills, TF-CBT is a proven treatment for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.
